why is it more difficult to spot an alkali than an acid by looking at its name?

The word acid is mentioned in the name such as amino acids, sulfuric acid , hydrochloric acid. They have a COOH terminal.
Alkalis or bases are not mentioned as such. Sodium hydroxyde(NaOH) , ammonia (NH3+H2O--NH4OH ) and Potassium hydroxide (KOH) are exemples of alkalies and their names do not say alkali .They have a OH group.
