Hi, I am trying to find out artist/title of a song that briefly and quietly played in the 1973 movie "The Exorcist." SCENE: Father Karras (black, wavy hair) and Father Dyer are at the college dorm. Specifically, it's after Father Dyer has Father Karras lie down. You begin to hear it more, after he takes Fr. Karras' shoes and cigarette, tells him "shut up and go to sleep. The song's volume is at it's PEAK when Fr. Dyer turns off the lights and says "Good night." HERE, you experience a part of a psychedelic carousel-like instrumental playing. WHAT IS THIS?? This may be good question for those are know music from late 60's early 70's!!
Hi, this is message is for Dave. Dave, thank you for your help so far. It has about 30min into the movie. It is right before father Karras has a bad dream about his mother (while in the dorm room) and also before Regan screaming, as she gets injection in the physician's office. It is exactly when the one priest with the red shirt turns off the lights. YOU HAVE TO HAVE VOLUME UP KIND OF LOUD. (It is for brief 10 sec, maybe.
Hi Dave, Sorry, I did not know you responded. (I did not see notification in my email inbox.) I checked those links, but unfortunately, they were not the same song. I really appreciate your help. Ironically, their styles were "Exorcist-esque" with the cellos, and although this one may have had cello, it was more caroussel- like. I wonder, is literally EVERY song (despite being 10 sec and in background) listed in Soundtracks?? Thank you again, and I really appreciate your help.
Hi Dave, Thanks for all your help. It's too bad I can't hear those songs- no links online. The last quest would be via Iphone, or whatever can detect and name a song. (I've heard people take one of these ohone to radio, etc.. to name a tune. I do not know wnyone claoe by who has one. Do you? THANKS AGAIN
The soundtrack is listed here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070047/soundtrack It may list songs in the movie that are not found on the CD soundtrack. Tonight I will watch the movie again to see if I can figure out exactly which song it is. Do you know roughly how many minutes into the movie that scene is so that I can fast forward to it?
Ok, I saw the scene and I could hear it (just barely). That instrument sounds like a cello.
It's tough to say from the limited audio portion in the movie, but it is probably "Cello Concerto" written by Krzysztof Penderecki. The song is listed in the movie soundtrack but is not contained on the soundtrack CD.
Hi Tiffany. Are the answerpond notification emails going into your junk email folder? Sorry I didn't get it right yet. The last artist it could be is David Borden who is credited with the pieces "Study No. 1" and "Study No. 2" in the movie.
It is possible that not every song is listed in the soundtrack, but for this movie it is less likely since the artist David Borden is credited with a few songs in the movie that together total less than a minute playing time (according to the following sources).
However, unfortunately I could not find his songs "Study No. 1" or "Study No. 2" anywhere! So I don't believe they exist outside of the movie soundtrack. Sorry I couldn't help.
