Can't Hit Passing Gears.

I have a 2000 Chrysler neon. 232,000 clicks on it. The car runs fine and all but it hesitates when i try to hit a passing gear and it won't shift in to a passing gear. What could be the problem?

i think that you might of blown the engin. but when you blow the engin the car still runs.
