Car won't start!!!

Question by sross Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I have a '99 Ford Contour SVT , approx 144k miles....car will not start as it had been.... and if I do get it going, I have to keep the rpms above 5 so it will not stall. I have no automotive expertise here, but I do need a working vehicle... posible problems that have been suggested... fuel injectors?, vacuum system? water in distributor? water in gas tank? Engine light came on about a couple of weeks ago, but everything has been running fine and I had no problems until yesterday. Doesn't need an oil change for another 3000 miles either...any suggestions would be GREATLY appreaciated.... what things should I check first and obviously that is not going to cost an arm and a leg to get fixed..

Most likely a vaccuum leak. Look for rotten or broken vacuum lines. Have check engine light checked, may tell you where leak is.
