Checking condition of timing belt on '83 Porsche 928S

Question by Brutus Reward: 100 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I bought a 1983 Porsche 928S 4.7l V8 last year. The odometer is stuck at 335,000k's which matches the log boks last service. There is no record of any following services or TB changes. I have the workshop manual for this vehicle and have done a preliminary check through the site holes on the belt cover and it looks sound. Is there any other way of checking its condition as I am on a pension and can't afford to have it replaced if it doesn't need replacing. I am a DIYer and self taught farm mechanic. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

leakywelly, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately no, not UK but a downunder cousin in beautiful Queensland, Australia. Bought 928 on internet for $7,500.00au from dealer in New South Wales. Bad deal. More wrong than told now struggling to fix-up, hence the query about timing belt. Any assistance greatfully received. brutus

if you not sure replace it cos if it goes you wont afford the repairs.
