Circular dashboard warning light

Question by lisa2008 Reward: 100 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I have a 318i sedan bmw and a light comes on on the panel that is a circle with dashes around it My heat/cool index is within normal range, but it makes a rattle noise too. I put gas on the car and replaced the taillight that was out, but it is still on. I read an answer about this on another site and it said it could be my brakes? Could you please help me. thank you

Hi Lisa,

I believe you are referring to the disk brake pad indicator. This is most likely caused by worn brake pads (which is normal). When the pads wear, a sensor picks this up and notifies you. Bring it in to an auto repair shop -- prefereably sooner than later since if the brake pad wears completely you will need to replace a lot more parts than just the pads. Or if you're comfortable replacing the brake pads yourself, it's not too tough a job.
