I am an in home caregiver, I have a client that has a 14 1/2 year old dog that is eat up with cancer. The poor dog is in pain and should be put down but the client refuses to. But my question is, the dog smells of dead flesh, he has fluids draining from his mouth. Blood and who knows what else. My question is , is it possible for me to contact something or become ill or even catch something from this animal? I have been sick for a while now, doctors call it "respitory infection",also a secondary infection, I think "My" illness has to do with what is coming from this dog. IS THIS POSSIBLE.
Quite possible. The secretions are riddled with bacteria. There are some diseases and conditions that are transmittable from animal to human, example: colds, eye infections, worms (yes parasites), mange. If you come in contact with his fecal matter, oh yes. I am a cat rescue and i have my blood tested regularly because of all the things that can cross from pet to human and visa vera. I hope you let your doctor know your working environment is full of possibly harmful secretions, bacteria, viruses, etc. GoodLuck!
