Question by handsomeguy Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
The heater doesnt blow any hot air anymore...and now the engine temp gauge rises pretty quick after its been running for a short time...and i smell a burned oil smell and i looked under hood and saw that burned oil smell smoke coming from around the engine....is the engine overheating ?...are these problems connected and what is causing these problems? ...i have a 1990 Ford Tempo..and i did check engine oil level when it was cold..it was good.

Clarification by handsomeguy
Until i get this car fixed...is it safe to drive the car around town..just on short trips? Ive driven it a few times since i posted this question..and the engine temp gauge isnt moving much...but i still want to know if its safe to still drive the car..and the few times ive driven it..am i causing any damage to the engine or any other parts?

i believe that your engine temperature and heater not blowing hot air is because you need a new thermostat. the burned oil smell that you have is probably because your valve cover gaskets are leaking. you should probably have your thermostat and valve cover gaskets replaced.
