Headlights out on 2004 Nissan Maxima

Question by bonnie812 Reward: Log in to view Status: Pending a resolution
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima and my headlights are not working. All the other lights work such as the park lights, tail lights, brake lights but not the headlights. I am thinking that it might be a fuse problem but when I look at the fuse box I cannot determine which fuse is for the headlights. If this is not the issue, I am not sure of what else to check. How can I determine if the headlights need replacing. It seems strange that both would go out at the same time. Is there some type of component that Nissan has built in the lights that if 1 light goes out that both will go out at the same time? Help...dealer is charging 90.00 to just look at the issue and I do not have the money right now and I need my headlights...Thanks

I would definitely start with the fuses. It should state in the manual (and usually in the fuse compartment) which fuse is which. Nissan did _not_ add a part so that if one light goes out then they both do since that wouldn't make any sense. The lifetime of both bulbs should be very similar, so it is quite common for both bulbs to fail within the same month. It is possible that one went dead a while ago and you didnt notice since the one that was left was providing adequate light.

So again, try fuses first. If those check out alright, then look at the bulbs to see if they're blown.
