Home run or double? Help settle a bet!

Question by 3wiseMen_andAWoman Reward: 200 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
My friend and I were discussing a theoretical play in baseball. We know that if a batter hits a ball that bounces of a fielder (in play) and goes over the wall, it is a home run (e.g. Jose Canseco). We also agree that if a ball hits the top of the fence and goes over, it is a home run; however, if a ball is hit off the fence and then 'caught' by a fielder before hitting the ground, it is considered 'in play' and not 'out.' Which leads to our question:

If a ball is hit off the fence, then goes off the fielder (without the fielder having posession of the ball) and then bounces over the fence all without hitting the ground, is the ruling a 'home run' or 'ground-ruled double'?

Clarification by 3wiseMen_andAWoman
I am really looking for a concrete example of a play where this has happened or a reliable reference someone can cite.

My friend and I both agree that since the ball never touches the ground it should be a home run. In order for it to be a double we think that it would have to bounce at some point.

it's a double because i hit the fence frist then the fielder and bounces off it's a double because you only have you only have 1 play it hit the wall then the fielder which equals a double

It is a double, if the ball hit the fence then the fielder it would never had been over the fence. Even if the fielder batted the ball over the fence it would not count as a home run. Ex. if the ball had hit the fielder and went out of bounce the ball would not be called dead because it went out.
