How do I unlock the Function Key?

I had a new hard drive installed. When I got the computer back, the Function Key is locked and I can't use the letters on the right side of my laptop unless I continuously press the Fn key ... don't know how to turn the Fn key off. Jerry

My 9yr old fixed it ... thanks for the query. I'm too embarassed to say what was wrong. However, it had several other ITs stumped, too.

My laptop does not have a separate number pad; although, it does have a NumLk key. When NumLk is pressed, to the left of u,j,m, becomes a number pad instead of letters. If you press p and get an * ... check to see if NumLk is pressed.

I'm assuming it is a laptop? What brand is it?

Glad to hear your 9 year old figured it out! Can you please post here what you did so that other members can solve the problem when they run into it? No reason to be embarrased, especially since it stumped IT professionals. Thanks in advance!
