The people google search for a start.

Since many people may have the same name , the city where he/she lives may be useful in order to narrow down.
Another site http://www.usa-people-search.com/order.aspx ? If you do not know where the person lives now, but you know his profession or the company he is associated with or sport or arts or his high school name, sometimes just typing the name on Yahhoo search and anything associated with the person may bring some info that can be a starting lead.
