I am employed by a certain retail store and when the manager books me for four and half hours He pays me for four hours the same applies when I do 8.5 hours I am paid for 7.5 hours 30minutes is unpaid break and another 30 minutes is taken off. I asked my manager why he said it by law that they do not pay us for 30minutes. I would like to know whether this is lawful according o employment law.

Sounds like your employer may be guilty of an overtime violation since they are making you work without pay (for a half hour). Depending on the state, employment law will vary, but there should be many lawyers in your area that will be more than happy to hear your case for free and can then decide to represent you. Chances are that they will owe you all back wages due, and possibly some penalties. Here's an example for certain states:

So contact a lawyer in your state and they can tell you based on your specific circumstances. Your phonebook should have some numbers, and you can also find some numbers by doing a google search. Sometimes the ads on these pages are targeted demographically, so you may have luck finding one that way...

nah laws change I worked and had no overtime - no holidaypay - no weekend rate - a flat minimum wage - I was full time - or am I a sucker ? nah - it's a new law!

I left anyway - guess my heart just was not in it.
