I would like to know why my Iguana would start to eat dirt out of the plants in her cage. She is feed well and eats alot. What is in the dirt that she likes? Is it her way of saying feed me more? Is it good for her to eat that dirt? Thank You so much

While you say the iguana eats a lot, most people are not aware that iguanas have high nutritional needs. I had to learn this the hard way as I had iguanas the breeder told me they only needed to be fed lettuce, which I supplied generously.

After a couple of months they developed stiff, painful limbs... I took them to a vet and they were suffering from mal-nutrition and required a series of shots which included vitamins -they did recover with time. Iguanas need a balanced diet of a wide variety of vegetables... egg shells, meal worms, crickets -ask a veterinarian for more detailed info or google.

Best of luck.
