Loud Tapping noise in motor

Question by firebolt76 Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I recentl purchased a 96 Mazda 626 and while driving the other day an extremly loud tapping noise started in the engine. i checked the oil and it was fine. I read the owners manual and it said a slight tapping is normal for the 2.5 liter v6 but this is really loud. I was wondering what it could be?

Using a lower octane fuel in your car can lead to a "pinging" noise. See if using a higher octane fuel gets rid of the problem.

It is probably a brokin rod that is connected to the piston
