I have a manuel transmission mitsubishi lancer and it wont stay in reverse gear. I can put the car in reverse, but as soon as I try to go, the gear pops into neutral.

it sounds like maybe the syncronizer for reverse gear is bad. you will have to pull the transmission out, and take it to a repair shop. you can get a transmission repaired cheaper than you can buy one. or possibly get one from the junkyard.
