Mixed Impedance in speaker wiring.

Question by melonhead Reward: 100 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Answered
I have 8 - 1 ohm speakers and 1 - 8 ohm speaker, question is, how doi I wire them together to produce a 4 or an 8 ohm load for my amp, or can they even be wired together at all? The end product I'm looking for is one speaker consisting of the aformentioned drivers. Thanks

Hello Dave, Thanks for your response to my question on mis-matched speaker impedance and proper wiring of such. I thought like you that I should wire the 8 - one ohm in series with each other and then wire the single 8 ohm speaker parallel to them, but I just wasn't sure.

Ok, I think the answer I gave you will result in a 4 ohm load.

I think you can wire them so that the 8 ohm speaker is connected directly across the terminals while the other 8 (one ohm) speakers are connected together in series across those same terminals. Maybe someone with an EE degre on here can double check that before you try it and blow your amp and speakers...
