What is a motherboard? How does it work in the computer? How long do they last. How do you know when it needs replacing before it crashes?

The mother board is the main circuit board in the computer. It has slots to add things such as a video card and memory boards. Usually they will last until long after the computer is obsolete. What may happen is that the fan that cools the CPU goes bad, the CPU over heats and goes bad. You could replace the CPU, but if it is very old, you may not be able to buy one like it, or even a newer one that will fit in the same socket.
