My dog was shot by a STUPID neighbor,I live on a fixed income,as my husband is handicapped. We can't afford to take him to a vet.The wound has an entrance and an exit wound, straight through his neck.He didnt't bleed a whole lot when he came running home, how should I treat it? He is resting comfortably and doesn't seem to be in any pain. Please help if you can,he is just a small beagle and isn't a bad dog;he is part of the family. If he passes my children will be heart broken.
yea no matter where you go there will be questions about the person that shot the dog.
Check for infection, clean the wound and treat the shot as though it is on your neck. A bandage and something to prevent infection is good.
A little alcohol can help clean the wound - keep your dog inside and warm. Watch behavior and take him to a vet if something is wrong, but be prepared, the Vet may call the police and you might need to make a report.
I think if you do go to the police, your dog will get better treatment, and don't worry about the cost - You dont hear people saying , oh I got shot but he will get away with it cos I cant afford a doctor or police.
Call the Police and have one of them take your dog to a VET, NOW! Another Police Officer can write up your report to be filed. First get a VET to treat the wounb. Since the bullet went all the way through he might survive if he sees a VET Very Soon. A Policeman can take your dog to the VET. Make sure you have a Police Officer file a POLICE REPORT detailing the shooting, time of day it happened, what you saw, who you saw, anything you remember. Next, call an Attorney. If you are in the state of Texas, you can go through West Texas Legal Association. They do all free pro-bono work there and can take on your case. It might be a long waite though since there are few. I would call and talk to twelve Attorneys anywhere, and soon, and see what can be done. I know for a fact it is illegal to shoot a hunting dog, and a beagle is a hunting dog! I have owned both a Beagle and a Lab. First take great care of that Beagle, even if someone eles has to cary him to the VET. You see, a VET can back up the truth that it really was a gunshot wound and that will hold up in a court of law and be on record with the paper work proof to hand the Judge! So, wheather your dog lives or dies, a VET he needs to see, especially in this case. Do it for him, not just for the case later on. Get him to the VET fast and NOW!
