Pass key override for radio in 2006 Chevy Cobalt

Question by LolaJ Reward: 300 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. About a week ago, my 15 year old daughter left the door opened and my 26 year old daughter discovered it about 4 hours later. You guessed it...dead battery. I called a towing company to start the car, and he managed to reset the passkey system after fiddling with it for about an hour. It starts, but the radio is not working.

I know I need a passkey number to get it working, but I have no idea where to find it, and once I do find it, need to know how to put it in so I can get the radio back. I am told this is not difficult, but when I called the dealership, they want to charge me $40. I know its not much, but to me it might as well be a $1,000 right now. So could someone tell me how to find the pass key override, and then how to put it in?

Contact another dealership. Many provide it for free as a courtesy service. They will usually make you bring in the car along with some form of proof that you own it such as drivers license and title or insurance card.

Sometimes the passcode is written down in the owners manual by the dealership you bought it from. Sometimes it is on a label hidden inside the glove box. On my car it is written on a label that can be seen only by removing the glove box (a 15 second procedure).

Please post back with the success of these methods so that we can try other things if none of them are successful.

Try holding down buttons 2 & 3 on the radio for about 20 seconds. This works on certain chevy vehicles. Hopefully it will work for yours.
