Hi, I just bought the Samsung HTX75 5.1 Home Theater System. I have a Sharp Aquos 46" HDTV and a Motorola DVR cable box. I tried connecting the Home theater with HDMI cables (I connected the TV via HDMI to the Samsung receiver, and then from the receiver back out to the box) and evertyhing was fine on the HD channels (both video and audio worked flawlessly), but once I tried a regular D channel, it went to snow and I couldn't do anything. If I turned the Samsung receiver off, then changed the channel on the box to a HD channel, and then turned the receiver back on, it was fine again. I called RCN (my cable provider) about this issue and they told me ultimately to get an Optical Cable for my Audio. So I bought an optical cable and that does not work either. I have it so the HDMI cable is going from the TV to the box, and the optical cable is going from the box to the Samsung receiver. When hooking it up this way, I get no sound. I'm usually pretty tech savvy but this is stumping me and my buddies who I consider pretty good with this stuff. One of them even has the same setup with Cablevision as their cable provider and his works fine. It seems it's a cable box issue, but is there something I can do in the settings of one of my components to make this work?
The box works fine on its own without the receiver, so changing the box is NOT the answer. There must be a setting on the box that I am unaware of, or perhaps the box is just not able to work with surround sound?
