Scatching feeling in pedals while driving

There is a scratching feeling in the pedals in my '98 Ford Taurus that comes and goes when I drive and a thumping feeling that comes and goes while I am stopped. What could it be?

it could be a number of different problems. it sounds like maybe your engine could be missing. i would suggest taking it to a mechanic.

this could be caused be a broken brake return spring and worn pads get it checked out soon
