Question by reemo Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
Hi,i have a volvo 850 t5r manual, which i have owned for about a year. Recently started to drink more oil than usual. After taking the car out for a drive yestarday found that there was smoke coming out of the bonnit, when i opend the bonit and unscrued the filler-cap. I found some sticky oily substance in the coolent bottle. It seemes that the water is not serculating. The fan seems to be kicking in more frecuantly and the coolent bottle heats up, and the pipes expand slightly with pressure.I allowed the car to cool down and opened the water-pipe ontop of the raidator an found the same substance in that pipe so i think it must be serculating into the raidator since then i havent driven the car. ********please help!

Your car shouldn't be using up any oil. It's supposed to be a closed loop system, so if you find yourself adding oil that means there is a leak somewhere. This can be very expensive to troubleshoot since the leak may be inside your engine. As for your coolent, do you know if the water pump is working?
