Tell me about fishers

We have been told that we have some fishers in the area. Every other night we hear a strange cry/bark that goes on for hours. I watched them by the light of the moon the other night and they appear to be larger than a cat but lighter in colour than the typical colour of a fisher in pictures. There were two in my driveway the other night and one seemed to make the cry/bark followed by a vicious sounding "purr". Any thoughts? They were different sizes: one being abouth the size of a large persian cat and the other twice its size.
