Was pad trained......now refuses to use them

Question by jpearson Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I have a 6 month chihuahua...I got him potty trained on the pee pads, he would also go outside when we were out. I live in a condo on the third floor. He was doing great with no accidents for approx 3 months. Now all of the sudden he is having accidents constantly and will not go on his pads anymore. I even try to soak up some of his urine with the pad to encourage him to use them, he still wont. I dont know how this happened or why.....i also can't seem to correct the issue. Any advice?????

Clarification by jpearson
pads are in a completly different room than his bed. He was using a separate pad for #1 &#2

How close are the pads to where he sleeps? You could try moving them further away. if that doesn't help, you may have to switch to going outside.

Your sweet baby is growing out of using pads and wants to "protect the pack" by marking his territory outside! He is trying to communicate with you. He is telling you he doesn't want to get his feet messy or smell it any longer! Try carrying him down the stairs to the grass more often or get a ground appartment or rent a house with a back yard. Also, if he doesn't get to go outside often enough, he could get a bladder or kindey infection and be going where and when he feels the urge sooner. You might get him a check up with the Vet to see if he is physically ok. But as far as his behavior it has to be one of the two, wanting to feel the grass or ill. After a good clean bill of health, try more trips outside and pads just at night by the front door or area away from his bed, food,or away from your bathroom. I think he just wants to mark his area and see where FeFe went last. Rose7
