What causes loud ticking sound in motor

Question by power22 Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I have a 1996 Ford Contour; 2ltr; 199000 klms. A loud ticking sound on cylinder four is heard when idling, accelerating, always present. No loss of power and doesn't burn any oil. All is ok except the noise. I suspected a rocker arm or a stuck lifter but question where there is no power loss. What do you think?
