Virtual Waiting Room Question
Tried searching the community, but it didn't seem to be working properly.

So, I just got an E-Mail saying I got selected for the opportunity to buy tickets for opening day or a Sox/Yanks game. I've never dealt with the virtual waiting room before. Shit, I haven't actually ever bought tickets to a game myself. I've heard the VWR is a mess and a pain in the ass, but I'd like a little advice. How early should I start trying to get in and what effect does getting picked in this have on my odds of actually getting tickets to one of these games? I know my odds are slim on opening day (Though that's, obviously, my top choice), but will I have heavy odds of managing to get the full four tickets for at least one of the games? I ran through that VWR post from a couple weeks ago and that was more a matter of everyone hating it than any actual details I might need.

It all depends on how long you're stuck in the VWR for. I unfortunately was stuck in there for about 10 hours when tickets went on sale a couple weeks ago, and could only find one series (beginning of July against Tampa Bay) where I could get two non-obstructed non-standing room seats together. But in previous years, after a few hours of being in the waiting room, I've been able to get as many as 4 seats together.

So, in summation, getting picked means you'll get tickets, but quality/amount of tickets is entirely dependent on how soon you're picked. In this case, (there are what, 20 games available?), I'd say if you're picked within a couple of minutes you'll be fine. Being picked from the waiting room is completely random (NOT first-come first-served), so it doesn't really matter when you get there....but just in case, try to get in the VWR within a half hour or 15 minutes of the time the tickets go on sale.

Hope I helped, and good luck.

Wow. In paragraph two I meant to say that you'll be fine if you're picked within a couple of HOURS, not minutes.

I got the same email as the OP. So... just to make sure I'm understanding correctly. I got chosen, so I definitely will get SOME ticket, just my seat might suck or maybe I won't be able to get more than one together?

Also, when the first batch of tickets went on sale I managed to get them for April 20th and September 8th, but they were single tickets and I didn't try to get more than that. The thing said you can buy up to 4 so, suppose I say I want 4. Will it only look for seats together or would it be like, no, there aren't 4 seats together but here are 4 seats somewhere? And if you choose a quantity and it doesn't find that many together, can I go back and change it or do I have to get chosen out of the waiting room again?

Yeah, it's probably 99.9% certain you'll get SOME ticket if chosen, they just might not be together.

And as far as I know, the online ticketing thing only looks for 4 seats together in the same row, and if it can't find that, it'll tell you to pick a lower quantity. You can then go back and pick a lower quantity and try again or you can try for another game. Be sure not to hit your back button on your browser, always follow on screen links. If you can't get the number of tickets you want for a game, click "schedule" at the top and find another game. You won't get kicked back into the waiting room once you're picked.

Also, I'm not sure where either of you live, but this is where having access to the actual ticket window at Fenway park helps some. If you want 4 seats together, the website only looks within a row. But someone at the ticketing window will check to see if there's an empty group of 2 right behind another empty group of 2 so you can be semi-together.

Wait, can I go to the window instead of dealing with the VWR? I live about a mile and a half from Fenway and that would be epically **** ing ideal.

I don't think you can for the special raffle ones, like the Yankees/monster games. Those are online only I'm pretty sure (sorry to get your hopes up). But you can do it for regular tickets, though I'm not sure if the dates those go on sale is the same as the online sale on a year to year basis.

Eh, I can dream, I guess.

As it stands, my epic dream is that, if I don't get opening day, I get the September 28 game and the Sox win on a walkoff, clinching the AL East and sending the Yanks crying back to the Bronx baseball-less until 2009 with the Wild Card already locked up by the hapless Royals.

I'm pretty sure that would be the absolute zenith of my existence if it were to happen.

Yeah, I'm less than a mile from Fenway so I got excited at first but... I checked the email and since you have to login, it sounds like you can only buy them online.

Thanks by the way, and to the OP for asking. This has been a really horrible month so when I got this email it immediately became a lot better. But then I was worried I wouldn't actually be able to get tickets so I feel relieved.

The last two years the first day to buy tix at the window has been the Saturday after the Saturday that tickets go on sale, and they do NOT hold back tix, so it's not terribly helpful unless you want to go from game to game looking for piggyback singles or something like that. Generally speaking they want you to do everything online.

If you can't get the number of tickets you want for a game, click "schedule" at the top

If you are on the "Nope, we don't have that many" screen, you may first need to click the option that's something like "choose different seats." Then, from the page that gives you, you'll definitely see "Schedule" in the links at the top.

Thanks, that does help quite a bit. I essentially plan to be attempting to log in from both IE and Firefox from the very minute they go on sale. To the point that I've canceled my plans for Friday to make sure I'm up by noon.

When I was picked for Monster tickets in 06, I spent about maybe 45 minutes in there (but got there the SECOND it opened) and I'd made up a list the night before of which games I'd want in which order. The first two on my list sold out while I was waiting (they update the VWR screen with what's sold out) and the next one didn't have 4 together on the front row. So, I went to my next choice and got four easy.

So.. Load it up the second it opens, and do not leave your computer because it just kinda.. suddenly loads.

In my experiences with the VWR, I have always logged in as soon as they say ticket sales start. If it starts at 10am, I log in and wait in the VWR at 10am. I usually have multiple windows/tabs open (at the most 7) and have always gotten tickets. This is not to say they were fantastic seats (last year I made friends with pole #18 as I sat behind it for 3 games...), or tickets to games I especially want to see, but I've always been able to acquire tickets.

In my VWR experience, I have always had to wait many hours before getting in to pick my tickets.

My advise to you is to pull up a comfy chair, be patient, keep an eye on your windows/tabs, do not refresh and don't give up.

Good luck! Can't say I'm not jealous. ;)

The term virtual is a concept applied in many fields with somewhat differing connotations, and also, differing denotations.

The term has been defined in philosophy as "that which is not real" but may display the salient qualities of the real. Colloquially, 'virtual' is used to mean almost, particularly when used in the adverbial form e.g. "That's virtually [almost] impossible".
