Hello, Perhaps you have neither the time nor interest, if not I do understand.
I am wondering if you might have any information on a people in Cape Town with a different bone structure. I saw, some years ago a research on an extended family, perhaps cape colored or of Portuguese descent with a bone structure enabling them to touch their elbows in the back as well as the front of their body. I seem to recall it was either the lack or perhaps a malformed bone. Im afraid I can remember little else. Have you ever heard of this or was it just a dream?
Hello bionic2, thanks for your reply which is very interesting, but Im afraid is not what I was looking for. I remember a doctor doing this research showed how this child was able to touch her elbows together at her back as were the other members in her family. Several generations of this family all had the same ability & I somehow feel it was a shoulder bone of lack there of. I also feel certain it was in or near Cape Town.
Might anyone suggest where I could find an answer to this puzzle? As it does seem quite a puzzle, perhaps they have died out, or with modern medicine rectified this unique occurrence.
Hi Nobie, I found an article about a rare genetic bone disease in Afrikaans and the researches were performed at Cape Town South Africa. However, in this genetic malformation, the bones are thicker and the person will be of short stature. This defective gene is very much in the news now because its study may help cure osteoporosis (thinning of the bones) which is the opposite of it. However, I am not sure that it is the genetic bone disease you were looking for.
