burning oil

2004 cavalier is burning oil. don't see any smoke and car runs fine, but can smell something burning

it sounds like maybe you have a valve cover gasket leaking oil onto an exhaust manifold. or oil leak elswhere on the engine and it is getting on the exhaust somewhere.
