Most likely unrelated to the belt. Fuel injected chevys have a problem in the theft device in the ignition switch, (or key switch) sometimes. When you turn on the key the injectors all fire and put fuel in all cylinders because the computer does not know where the crankshaft is at prior to cranking the engine. After cranking the engine the crankshaft position sensor tells the computer what position the crankshaft is in therefore the computer knows which injector to fire and which plug to fire. If you van cranks, starts, then dies immediately, the problem may be in the ignition switch or the key. The key has a chip in it that comunicates with another chip in the ignition switch and allows the injectors to fire after the engine starts. I have seen this problem more than once. Try another key. If that doesnt start it then there is most likely a problem in the switch or the computer. Only a dealer can tell you which one is not functioning properly. You can also check for a bad wire near the switch. If it has tilt wheel, try moving the wheel up and down, sometimes a bad wire will lose contact in certain positions. A key made at a key shop will probably not work, they usually must come from the dealer.
