charging system {ALTERNATOR}

hi my question is i have a toyota hilux tray 1989 model the alternator is not charging the battery .i have a change over one but the wire socket on the back is a round one where mine was a t socket can i strip the wires and just conect or does it have to be the same replacement the wires are different colours to mine too cheers brendan

just make sure red goes to red ie positive to positive and black goes to black ie earth or return goes to earth or return.
