converting video 8 to dvd

Question by jeffnet Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
Hello, I have a stack of used 8mm tapes that I cannot play due to my old sony ccd-trv45e pal video 8 handycam having a worn out head. I now have a digital video camera.
My question is: what is the best and least expensive way to convert these memories to DVD. I am thinking of buying a second hand 8mm vidcam on ebay as the first step so that I can at least play them, (please tell me if this is the correct first step) and I am open to suggestions as to how to then convert them to DVD. I would appreciate any help, thank you.....Jeff

you can buy a regular vcr tape that the 8mm tape will fit into. you can then put them into a dvd/vcr combo that has recording capabilities.
