Respiration is the process where air is drawn into the body, oxygen absorbed by the body, carbon dioxide, water vapor, and waste products are released from the body, then the "old" air expelled. While in the lungs the air is heated by the body. So some "energy" is lost in the form of heat. The body produces heat from the metabolism of food that was eaten.
