external oil leak at upper cylinder.

Question by tri_wes Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Answer selected by AnswerPond
Ihave a 1968 Honda Dream 305 which I recently freshened up the upper cylinders.New rings and different pistons.I hooked every thing up and the engine started right up.But soon my grin of delight turned into frustration as I saw oil pouring down the cylinder fins at the exhaust pipes.I resealed the upper case covers and the same thing happened.I checked the cam end covers and found a missing gasket on the points side.So I replaced that.Didn't help. Is there a sealer that you are to use on these cam end gaskets? Is there a procedure that I'm not aware of when resealing these engines to ensure leak proof results.I will appreciate your input.(Shoestring Budget)

try off setting the piston rings and make sure none of the grooves in the piston rings are lined up. Also, make sure that you have the right valves for the bigger pistons, if not they will leak.
