getting rid of old/broken computers

Question by rosie Reward: 25 Pond Points + 10 Knowledge Tokens Status: Pending a resolution
I have several old computers that I want to throw away. Do I have to do anything to delete my personal info before throwing them away? Can I just put them in the trash?(monitors, hard drives)

I would recommend deleting your personal info before throwing them away to prevent identity theft. If you have very sensitive information on them (such as account numbers, passwords, credit card numbers, or social security numbers) then download a free program called eraser: http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/download.php and use that to truly delete the information from your hard drives. Since a simple "delete" still leaves the contents on the drive.
