how do i retrieve information off my hard drive c d

What prevents you from clicking on "My Computer" and viewing the contents there?

Is it a laptop or desktop? Is the computer dead?
Either way, you may be able to remove the hard drive and install it in a working unit to retrieve your information and copy it to a disc.
