what is thyriod?

Hello Brenda,
The Thyroid is a gland in the front of the neck.It secretes hormones,thyroid hormones, which affect growth, metabolism and puberty and many more...When the level of hormones if abnormal,there are some diseases such as hyperthyroidism from high concentration and hypothyroidism from low activity of the gland.
People with low level of thyroid hormones will gain weight, have a slow metabolism,low energy ,and be tired and cold. On the other hand, people with high concentration are nervous, have shaking hands ,weight loss and fast heart beat.An enlarged thyroid gland is called a goiter and is an indication of thyroid problems.
