if a doctor ordered 5000 units of heparin, what is the volume of heparin that will be needed?

The volume will depend on the concentration of the heparin. If the vial has 100 units per ml it will take 50 ml for 5000 units. If the vial has 1000 units per ml, the volume will be 5 ml. The concentration should be written on the bottle.
In hospital it may be diluted further in saline for slow administration so the volume will increase to the total volume of the saline in which 5000 units were added.
