no. Bettas have gills. They are sensitive and only could breath water. Leave it in water or it will die.

A fish can be out of the water only for a few seconds , and I do that with a fish net only if I need to transfer him to another container . He is not happy to be transfered or disturbed and the water temperature needs to be the same in the new bowl .

i have a betta that lived a full day out of water! i got home from work and the terd jumped ship....i heard a slight flop on the table, there he was not a drop of water near him/ no wet spots dry as a bone and quite stiff too. of course i threw him back in, i thought he was dead slowly but surely there was more movement wtf! thats wierd. month later his fins healed and is still alive. id say they are pretty reliant fish when compared to a non-tropical fish such as a rainbow trout or a calico bass.

yes, They need to be kept in water. Just to suggest, in case your Betta is out of water to long, you can Make up a bowl of room temperature water and add a little salt to it then place the Betta in water for 1/2 hr. holding him under water. This is, If you sense he may die from being out out of water too long
