Dear Luvvie,
My sincere condolence for the loss of your father. Yes ischemic heart disease is a walking time bomb.
Ischemic heart disease occurs when the arteries conducting blood to the heart are narrowed by plaque settlement which obstruct and reduce the blood supply to the heart. Those plaques are mainly formed by fatty deposit as a result of too much fat and cholesterol in the diet (fat from meat, and fast food oils). Those also affect the blood pressure. People lose their life because of the damage to the heart muscle with lack of oxygen. Some treatments are possible but not always effective and bad arteries may lead to a heart attack and death.
