mercruiser boat motor

i have a mercruiser 470 engine, i might have ran it a little hot for just a short time, but will not turn over unless #1 cylinder is at top,but cranks reel slow and over heats battery cables. If cylinder is not at top,will only bump over? HELP PLEASE
