keep an eye on your pets when they run outdoors. like the commentor above suggests. there may be something in her paw....or maybe she may have cut the bottom of her paw on a sharp rock.....lie her down. and with a bright light, check her out......put some peroxide all over her paw anyways,,,,,also waita couple of days, if it gets worse, she may have infecter paw and would need a vet's attention

Check the inside of the pad. My dog did something similar and the inside of the pad was cut. Wash it and check. If there is a cut, then use flour and if it persists then go to the vet.

Perhaps it is not a cut, it could be a small catus or thorn. Check for little red or clear spears or a thorn as well as bleeding from a possible cut. Dependind on the weight of your dog and age, I think with the speed she was traveling, it could more than likely be a sprained knee, leg or hip. The one she is hopping on the fastest is not the one that is hurting. It is the opposite one. If you hurt your foot, you would hop faster on the one that is not hurt, so keep that in mind. Try wipping the area you think it is with a piece of dry cotton to possibly leave some cotton on it. If you find she has a thorn, get some good tweezers and a magnifing glass, have someone help to hold her steady by holding a piece of lunch meat next to her mouth but not giving her any. This will create a distraction and keep her busy. If you find a thorn, making sure it is in fact a thorn, then grab it only and not her hair. Pull quickly, put a little hydrogen peroxcide on it and dab it dry. That will kill some germs. Don't allow her to lick hydrogen peroxcide. (poisonous) So, dry it off. Then it will be ok for her to lick her foot. Reward her with the bit of lunch meat and praise her for being so good. If you can find the cat she chased, have it checked for rabbies. If her foot is ok and the cat did not bite or scratch her, then it is probably a sprain. If it is a sprain, she should take it easy for a few weeks, especially if she is heavy or overweight and not be playing rough at all. She sould not be jumping on furniture or up on beds or up stairs if it is a sprain. A vet is the best choice as always to determine what is actually wrong, especially if she became intangled in a "scrap" with a cat. Cats can carry rabbies. If your dog has been vaccinated against rabbies then your pretty safe, depending on how long ago and what type of vaccines. A cat however, would not attack the dogs foot, but maybe her hip or front knee. My guess is that she is suffering from a very bad sprain, if you don't find a thorn or cactus or puncture from cat claws. It is of course always a good idea and in some states a law to keep your dog on a leash when walking outside. Hope I've been some help. Rose7
