i have 2 minnows and one is chewing at the other. do i need to feed them more if so how much or are they naturally carnivious. oh yeah and what do they eat i have been feeding them tropical fish food.
Well, they are not carnivorous in the strick sense however other fish will eat/pick at a sick or dying fish. And they will sometime eat thier corpse once they are dead. As far as the food, that is fine. Minnows really aren't picky, just don't over feed. You should feed them no more than they can eat in 5 minutes twice a day.
You could add a small amount of ick medicine to the water, just in case since ick does irritate thier skin.
I'm fairly sure minnows will eat just about anything. In their natural lakes and streams, they'll eat bugs/larvae, plant matter, other fish (Living and dead, likely), along with small organisms such as daphnia, infusoria, and planaria (I believe that's what those small white worms are called... Correct me if I'm wrong!). If you were to keep them in an aquarium, I'm sure bloodworms, vinegar eels, brine shrimp and flake food would probably all be accepted without much complaining. =)
Locally (I'm going off the lakes of NW Wisconsin here, haha!), the habitat is coldwater temperatures (50-70, lower depending on the season), a sandy bottom scattered with pieces of driftwood, rocks and clam and snail shells as well as clusters of tall tape grass-like plants.
