please help leaking diff

hi i have a leaking diff on my rear axle the rubber has perrished the one where the propshaft goes into the axle hense leaking diff could you please tell me what the part is called so i can order one i have a grand cherokee 4.7 v8 limited petrol 1999 t reg many thanks

its called your main oil seal sir.

it is called a rear differential cover gasket, a main oil seal is on the motor one in front and one in rear, hence front main oil seal and rear main oil seal you want a differential cover seal is in center of rear axle, or if it is on the side where tire is, it is called right or left axle shaft seal, hope this helps

i beg to differ in uk the main oil seal in the diff is called main seal assuming person knows you talking bowt diff.as long as it is changed to stop leak lets hope its helpfull

Well here in the states, you're all wrong. Its called a pinion seal because it seals around the PINION where the drive shaft, or propshaft, enters the the rear differential.
