Dear Anissa ,
Prison time will increase depending on how many people will get killed in the process. It is better and wiser to keep away from guns and people carrying guns . Avoid dangerous situation and bad people. Get help if you are scared and you feel that you are in danger. Do everything you can to avoid dangerous situations. You may be able to buy a pepper spray or other legal defense products such as described here .

Carrying a gun in public is protected by our constitution (loaded or otherwise), so strictly speaking, it is not illegal. However, if the gun is not in plain sight, you can be arrested for not possessing a concealed weapons permit (which can be attained in any state by taking a class for a few hundred $$, but not if you're already a felon). Certain areas also have passed gun restrictions not allowing guns on their premises. Most malls, universities, etc...

Even though it's legal to walk down the street brandishing your shotgun, you should expect the police to harass you, but if you're careful, they have no means by which to charge you with a crime.
