was scientific inquiry in any way a threat to faith and spirtuality as the church feared?

Absolutely. Since religion is based on myth, science has disproved these myths thus these conflicts have caused a lot of fear and anger by churchgoers.

Science and religion are separate bodies of knowledge. Neither can disprove the other. As people misuse science to attack religion, it leads to conflict.

Science has proved all religions to be nothing but a parody on the worship of the 'sun' in which every religion has put a 'man' in place of the 'sun' and pay 'HIM' adoration that was "originally payed" to the 'sun'. All religions are nothing but worshipped mythical figures developed politically for social control! And the churches know this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
