the title of a book that was about several women who started a book club

I read a book last year and it was one of my favorites, but for some reason i can't remember the name of it. All that i remember is what it was about, a description. The book was about I think it was 5 (give or take one or two) women, all aging, who bonded together and formed something like a book club. In their book club they discussed not only the books but shared memories from the past. They had flashbacks and every few chapters it was different woman or time. I remember one part in which one of the women's husband hit her and she finally had enough courage to leave him after the other women found out and she threatened her husband at gunpoint. Another part was when another one of the women's brother shared a story about when he was in the army and the disturbing things that happened. I remember bits and pieces also, but I can't remember what the name was and I'd really like to read it again so if you know please respond.
