| you most likely have a pan gasket leaking.to check for this, look under the trans. there is a metal pan bolted to the bottom.if it is leaking around the area where it bolts to the transmission, you need a new pan gasket.to fix:lift the car and carefully place it on jackstands. take out all the pan bolts except along one side(doesnt matter wich side).then loosen the bolts along that side. DO NOT take them all the way out yet.there is fluid in the trans. pan so have a pan underneath the trans pan throughout this job.it needs to hold at least 2 gallons and be big enough to catch all the fluid.when you loosen the last side of bolts, the pan should drop slightly and start draining fluid. if it doesnt, carefully pry down side opposite of the bolts that are still partway in.BE CAREFUL not to damage the metal on the pan or,more importantly, the trans.when the fluid stops draining, hold up pan while removing remaining bolts. lower pan down slowly,it still has some fluid in it. dump into drain pan. carefully scrape gasket from trans and pan surfaces.clean pan, replace gasket as specified in the instructions that come with gasket, put pan back on being very careful not to over tighten and srip bolts.when tightening bolts, start with a corner bolt, then the one opposite of it, then repeat with other 2 corners.tighten the rest of the bolts.fill with specified amount of the right kind of fluid for your car.(start car up, rev slightly with foot on the brake and run slowly through the gears 2 times and check fluid with trans in park.)add as neccesary. if it is a stick shift skip the step in paretheses. |
