upper ball joints

hi there i now own a ford explorer 1997 and what a great truck,how ever i need to change both upper ball joints,are the ball joints seperate from the arms or are they all one piece,my local garage say,s they are seperate but when i had a look i could not tell,many thanks mark

yes, the ball joint is definately a seperate piece
