type everything on it, into google and it should show a pic, and tell you a bit about it,and then do the same thing on a site like "e-bay" and that will give you a rough value as far as they have ever sold one like it, and what it sold for or is selling for. as far as the 17 jewels, I believe that refers to the amount of jewels inside of the watch that make it work, as far as thinking that the jewels can be taken out and/or sold, nope, it does not work like that, the "jewels" are so small that they will not amount to more than a flake or a small chip, and is most likely going to be a jewel called quartz, this what I have said when I did some research on a watch that my grandmother had gave me and it had 10 jewel wrote on it, I believe the higher the jewel count the better the watch, but that only depends on the watches that that company produced, as the one I had said 10 jewel, and they made watches with 6, 8, and 10 jewel, so althought it was the better watch that that company had made, it was from the 1910's, and it was only valued at around 40 to 60 U.S. dollars, so keep in mind that what you find on e-bay is the price for that watch they had sold, their will be many factors that add or deduct value to your particular watch, like condition, age, rarety, working condition and so on. so I recomend you type all the info from the watch into google and read a bit about the watch and the company, then check e-bay for a rough idea on it's value, as only a dealer in person can give you what exactly you can expect that item to be worth becouse only they can see the exact condition and such.
I think I am correct, but again, I am not a watch expert by no means and am going by memory of one I had researched in the past, If I am way off base{which i do not think I am} I sure someone on here will clarify it for us.. but I am pretty sure I am real close on this description.

hope this helps,
and have a great day!!!
